GoCompare Dropped From Front Page

Wednesday, February 20th, 2008 | Industry News | No Comments

Achieving a first page organic listing on Google can take some hard work, and also achieving first page positioning can drive a serious amount of traffic to your website increasing your company profits. Although if you do not play by Google’s rules all your hard work can be abolished over night!GoCompare.com have been appearing first on the front page of Google under the key phrase ‘car insurance’ for quite some time now, until Google black listed them today pushing them back to page 7!GoCompare.com appear in TV adverts and radio commercials all the time but according to Hitwise 1 in 6 visitors found their website from typing ‘car insurance’. So moving from page one to seven will have some devastating effects on GoCompare’s sales leads. Most Search engine experts agree that the site was penalized for buying links, a tactic against Google’s guidelines.Coincidentally Confused.com has now reached the number one spot in Google for the key phrase ‘car insurance’ and its traffic has increased by an amazing 77%.

It does take an amazing effort to increase site visitors to your website and it can be a very long wait until you get there. But when you do organically reach the first page, it is still a constant struggle to hold your place, it is also wise to play fair and hope that Google do not decide to create new rules, making it even harder for websites to reach the front page.

EA Games Create A Free Web Only Game!

Electronic Arts are launching a free online version of it’s Battlefield video game, which will be supported by advertising and micro-payments. Battlefield Heroes will be available later this year and not sold in shops!

We read up on this and believe it’s the way that many games manufacturers will go as more and more gamers are signing up to play their games over the Internet on consoles such as the Xbox 360. Eventually physical discs will be faded out and the revenue which used to be made in physical game sales, will be made up through online advertising and micro-payments for extended levels. As more enthusiastic gamers are drawn to play online.

This will open up many new channels for games manufacturers to earn revenue from game sales, this will also cut down on piracy as the gamers are not actually paying for the game, unless they want extended levels etc.

Just another classic example of the Internets contribution to 21st century life. Soon there will nothing you can’t do online, and for web marketers, we think that’s a great thing!
